Austin A30

The Austin A30 was a two- or four-door small car from the Austin Motor Company . After the Second World War , Austin initially only produced mid-range and luxury vehicles. The Austin 7 was no longer produced and was missed by customers who could not afford the larger cars.

In 1951 Austin introduced a completely new vehicle: the new A30 model was designed in the modern pontoon shape and was the first Austin with a self-supporting body. The four-seater sedan (saloon) with two or four doors was 3467 mm long and 1378 mm wide. From 1954 a two-seater van and a four-seater station wagon (Countryman) with two doors at the front and rear doors were also available. The front doors had sliding windows and small triangular windows that could be opened; in the rear doors the large windows were firmly set into the frames and only the smaller triangular windows could be opened. The car was equipped with a 4-cylinder front engine (803 cc, 28 bhp [21 kW]), a 4-speed gearbox with a gearshift lever between the front seats and rear-wheel drive. The sedan reached almost 100 km/h. Instead of indicators it had indicators in the frames behind the front doors. The front wheels were individually suspended on double wishbones with coil springs and lever shock absorbers. At the rear, a rigid axle ( banjo axle ) with leaf springs , lever shock absorbers and stabilizer was installed. The partially hydraulic braking system acted hydraulically on the drum brakes ( duplex brakes ) of the front wheels and with the "frame cylinder" on the handbrake rod, which in turn was connected to the drum brakes of the rear wheels. The steering gear was a finger steering with a split tie rod. [1]

In 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth II 's coronation, the car was offered with a special palette of exterior colours in an exuberant display of national pride: they were all named after English royal castles (e.g. Windsor , Balmoral , etc.).

Today marks the official launch of the two-door Austin A 30. The model is being built in 1/8 scale and as a curbside variant. As always, we are starting from scratch, as there are no kits of this size on the market.

The preliminary work is done on the computer, here are the first drawings:

Except for a few minor details, the model is fully constructed. The rear fog light still needs to be added

and the beads on the body are closed.

3D printing is planned for next week.

Today the starting signal was given for component production. The first parts were placed in the Chitubox and off we go.

The first printed components:

Plottered window stencils:

The body of the Austin has now arrived. The surface is frosted, I hope that the filler can even everything out well. The advantage is that the material is super stable and does not deform.

In the meantime I have finished the wheels:

The body is now ready to be painted and should shine in solid black today.

The painting is done, great result:

The Austin is currently in final assembly:
